I work flexible hours to suit you, in the privacy of your own home.  The topics I cover are shown below.  The courses can be tailored to meet your individual needs.  I supply DVDS, books and other learning media.

The course can be held in a group environment or in your home.  Each course consists of 2 2hourly sessions.

Topics Covered

Where to have your baby home or hospital?  Who will care for you, independent midwives, community midwives, hospital midwives, consultants.  Who ever you choose to be your primary carer may at some point need to collaborate with other health professionals if necessary and with your consent.

  • Optimal fetal positions - what is the best position for your baby to be in before you go into labour, and what you can do to encourage this
  • Physiology of childbirth
  • Latent and active labour
  • Pain relief, including discussions on our bodies own natural pain relief called endorphins
  • When things do not go to plan- episiotomies, ventouse, forceps, caesarean section
  • What happens if your baby needs some help breathing?
  • Water birth
  • Birthing your baby
  • Delivering the placenta- physiological or managed
  • Vitamin k for the baby
  • Breast feeding
  • Artificial feeding
  • Care of the newborn – bathing, nappy changing, and early days.

 

During the course we will discuss

  • Independent midwives and the service we offer at Kent Midwifery Practice.
  • What you need to have a home birth,
  • What to take into hospital and what happens in the hospital.

I can also put you in touch with professionals who deal with nutrition, exercise and stress management during pregnancy and postnatal period.

£150 for the full course
£100 for the refresher course
